Notes from a lecture by photographer Doug Dubois 1/22/04

Relationship of photography & space:
-space in photograph
-space of display

"That's what I'm thinking, that's what I'm taking, that's what I'm doing"

The eye to non-eye: my eye fits you to the picture

Work comes from previous work. Go back until you get it right!

A photograph is a farewell, an irredeemable longing for all that was and can no longer be.

Storytelling

Editorial work--they hire you to do what you do. The worst thing to do is try to do something else.

After looking at my work (probably the self-portrait series with Beached Mermaid, My Grandmother's China, Waiting, etc.) Doug Dubois said not to be so timid in showing myself--it's okay to be vulnerable.
